About Laurie's Writing
On writing
I am now living in Taos and I am a full time artist, no longer juggling careers (writing and painting) like I did on Cape Cod. I spend my days painting and/or working on my art business. But when I get anytime off- outside of outdoor sports (hiking and skiing) I am writing stage play, screenplays and short fiction.

I have written daily since I was 13 years old. It's in my soul, flowing out my fingertips. It is how I comprehend and process my experiences, and feel the lava of emotions in everyday life. I am grateful to have this inherent need to express life on the page.
My Cape Cod environmental writing includes dolphin strandings; marine mammal rescue efforts; whales; oyster reef reclamation; shell fishermen; the fishing industry; nature and wildlife; former power plant growth vs. cancer issues in Sandwich Massachusetts; and on activists who exposed and fought what became the largest Superfund site in Mashpee, MA: Otis Air Force Base.
As a magazine features writer, I wrote for Cape Cod View magazine, Southern New England Weddings, Cape Cod Magazine, South Shore Living magazine, Prime Time Cape Cod, and several newspapers, including Cape Cod Times, the Cape Codder, the Provincetown Banner, the Burlington Free Press, Boulder's Daily Camera, the Upper Cape Codder and the Sandwich Broadsider.
As an editorial assistant for Rabideau Publishing on Cape Cod, I acted as assistant editor to Cape Cod Magazine and South Shore Living magazine. I generated and wrote stories in all areas, from features to chef and restaurant profiles, to real estate reviews. I also did photography, including food photography from features to prepared restaurant meals and cocktails; products for styles pages; prominent people; art openings; and real estate for the magazines. I also worked on the calendar, fact-checked, and edited articles.
In 2016, I worked as the crime reporter for The Taos News. I won three awards from the New Mexico Press Association during my short time there: First Place in Breaking News, Second Place in Breaking News, and Second Place in Writing in a Series.
Here are a few links for you to view some of my articles. It's been ten years since I've worked as a full time writer, and many links are defunct due to the magazines having closed. However, below you can find a few to peruse.

An article on a rare Blue Whale that came into Cape Cod Bay. I jumped on a Dolphin Fleet boat and wrote this for the Provincetown Banner. I covered Truro as a beat reporter for the Banner for a year, 2011-2012.
